Do it

  1. 1

    Check for danger and injuries

Get clear of traffic or hazards before doing anything else.

  2. 2

Call 112 for medical or fire, 110 for police

Give your location first, Straße and Hausnummer, then what happened, then how many people are hurt.

  3. 3

    Stay on the line

German dispatchers ask precise questions before sending help, answer in order rather than volunteering everything at once.

  4. 4

Use 116117 for the in-between cases

A bad fever at 11pm isn't 112, but it's also not a wait-until-Monday problem, this line bridges that gap.

Common questions

Does 112 work without a German number?

Yes, free from any phone, an EU-wide rule, no SIM or credit required.

What's the difference between 112 and 110?

112 reaches fire and ambulance, 110 reaches police directly. For a pure medical emergency, call 112.

What is 116117 for?

Germany's non-emergency doctor line, for evenings, weekends, or holidays when your GP is closed but you need same-day advice or a referral.
